A Day in the Life of A PR Pro

A day in the life of a PR…

Being a PR definitely has its pro’s. We work with inspiring and gorgeous clients and products every day, are able to speak to the UK’s media and hear what is trending on a daily basis, and also no day is the same.

There are highs when stellar coverage comes in, and also the odd low when sometimes feature plans shift against our hopes. So it can take some resilience too…A little bit of health, fitness and fun goes a long way in building a great balance for a hard working PR.

Here BBCO’s Senior Account Executive, Beth Atkins-Mandell, shares what a day at BBCo. looks like for her.

This morning my alarm went off at 5.30 am and after pressing snooze a few times I got up. I then got dressed, made some toast, and headed off to the gym! I did legs today, so I was there for about an hour and 15 minutes before I left.

Headed off to Tesco, got Turkey sausages, eggs and an avocado ready to make breakfast. I got home put the sausages in the air fryer, while they cooked, had a shower using my hackney body wash (shoutout Soapsmith) got dressed and then feed my cat and myself and that's my 5-9 complete, now for my 9-5!

I turned my laptop on and got up my to-do list for the week, if it's a Monday morning. I am planning from scratch for the week ahead and we also have our weekly team strategy call to go over all plans, themes and hooks for client. Every other day I work from my to-do list and work my way through.

I plan things into tasks and how long they take, so I look through the list and any tasks that will take 5 minutes are done first, emails are done second then longer tasks are done last (I got this top tip from Grace Beverley).

Today I spent the first hour creating a themed press emailer, the theme today was ‘BBCo’s essentials for Staycations and Bank Holidays - I incorporated suggestions with our brands that are topical at the moment, for example, I included a lot of the waterproof clothing from ACAI because April showers are really going above and beyond this year!

I then spent 2 hours pitching and building out relationships with the press. I love the fact this agency has a variety of brands so I’m able to speak to the beauty, fashion, lifestyle and health journalists on a day-to-day basis, meaning no day is ever the same and I can be creative with what I choose to pitch.

I sent catch-up emails, beauty-focused emails and specific topics that would work nicely for different journalists writing styles.

I then wrapped up the end of my day by starting our client's Monthly PR Reports, this gets sent out on the last day of the month so our clients can look at all the coverage collated from the month completed.

Turned my laptop off and day complete!
